This was the area that burned down a couple of years ago before I got a chance to ride it. Much of it has grown back now, so I’ve dusted off my mountain bike to give it a spin at long last.
I’m not very technically savvy on an MTB, but I love riding the hills on dirt. I made several mistakes, but I’m going to correct them. Climbing steep hills with loose dirt is a challenge for me, as you’ll see. I made it 3/4 of the way up before losing grip and walking the rest. I later found out that I put too much pressure in my tires (50 PSI – 30 was recommended to me).
I also ditched the drops after this ride and re-installed flat bars. Drops are fun to ride with, but I felt like I didn’t have a lot of control and the reach made my neck a little sore.
More MTB rides to come for sure. It’s great feeling like you’re at one with nature, there’s very little foot traffic, and best of all – no cars.
